THE GOLDEN BIRTHDAY BOOK™
For over half a century the Bramsch family has celebrated each member's unique, once in a lifetime Golden BirthdayTM. It began with our own five children, but the idea soon spread to our extended family and the families of all our friends.

Over the years, scores of people have e-mailed me for Golden BirthdayTM gift ideas and party theme plans after reading the Golden BirthdayTM article posted on my web site. So I wrote the book! Available at http://www.goldenbirthdaybook.com/

Hi dear Parent,

I made a supreme effort to publish before Halloween because I had two fun entries. I didn’t make it! But I’m adding them now anyway because they are educational tools, too.

There’s been so much news about toy recalls—I’ve included information below concerning names and dangers. Makes me pine for the home-made toys my children oftentimes preferred because those toys were anything their imaginations could imagine.

My beloved Gram saved wooden spools which were strung on a shoelace. Sometimes they were dropped into an empty round cardboard oatmeal box. Then the kids would shake it, or take off the lid and “cook” with one of my wooden spoons. One of their favorite toys were the cooking pots and lids. The banging metal made such music! :) I wish our world was as safe now as it seemed then.

Speaking of my Gram, daughter Mary sent a magazine clip to me this week. She sent it because she’d never seen the quote in print. Neither had I. It was a saying Gram lived by: “Money is like manure; it’s not worth a thing unless it’s spread around.” Turns out Thorton Wilder wrote it. Gram surely did ease the lives of her loved ones with her contributions. I strive to carry on the tradition.

Here’s a piece of US information that might explain why we’re feeling some financial strain. I used to say I have 3-inches of bills and half an inch of money! It's a repeat of the 70's.

Through the end of last week, the U.S. dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of the world's currencies was down more than 36% from its peak in 2001. If that seems a little abstract, take 100 dollar bills out of the bank and then throw 36 of them in the trash. That's what's happened to the value of the money in your wallet over the past six years! OUCH!
I know many of my beloved EP parents are facing some monetary challenges at this time. I once wore out a cookbook… “100 Ways to Make Hamburger” so I can empathize. There’s a free newsletter I like devoted to financial matters that you may wish to sample. I’ve been reading “Money and Markets” for almost 20 years and I can tell you that the advice they give is valuable. http://moneyandmarkets.com/

Remember, dear one, I value you right here, right now, in all you do for your family.

Love, Joan

This idea/image seems very agreeable with the Law of Attraction, yes?

The CELEBRATE LIFE Bow

My classic Caprice station wagon wears a beautiful metallic gold and purple hood bow to celebrate life. I love it and I especially enjoy when others comment upon it. Then I get to smile and share my Celebrate Life motto and invite them to join me with their own hood bow.

It's a small but effective way to spread the word that Life is to be enjoyed, yes?

LETTER

Dear Joan,

Just wanted to say I really enjoyed your newsletter especially the part about chores and allowances. My 4 1/2 year old sets the table, sometimes begrudgingly, but I tell her, "We all have to do our share". Also, we haven't introduced allowances, but totally agree with the philosophy of save some, give some and spend some.

Simone (Australia)

LETTER #2 from Simone

Hi Joan,

Thank you for your kind offer. I am not sure if there was any restrictions on which one I could choose, but my first choice would be your E-book, 'Teach Me, I'm Yours'. I have 3 children under 5 and am praying that I will be blessed with another one soon to even up the dining room table! This would be fanstastic as we live in regional Australia on a little farm, so the kids don't have too many come-over playdates. If this E-book is not available, I think I would get a laugh out of your E-book, ' You kids just wait'

Thank you and Blessings,

Simone

JOAN’S note: Simone received TMIY with my blessings. J

AQUA DOT DANGER

Could it be that Profit is the reason our children are in danger…again?

Retailers have pulled millions of the toys, known as Bindeez in Australia and Aqua Dots in the United States, from their shelves this week after scientists found the products contain a chemical that converts into the so-called "date rape" drug gamma hydroxy butyrate when ingested.

There is a significant difference in price between the two chemicals. The Chinese online trading platform ChemNet China lists the price of 1,4 butanediol at between about $1,350-$2,800 per metric ton, while the price for 1,5-pentanediol is about $9,700 per metric ton.

GUARD THE CHILDREN FROM THIS PRODUCT.

LETTER

Joan,
I haven't written and I should be ashamed! I have enjoyed your newsletters and ejournals, for several years. They hold a dear place in my heart. Over the years, I have found inspiration that keeps me on a level plane amidst chaos of everyday life. When I feel frustrated or confused, I come across your emails, and take away a new awareness that seem to set everything in a different perspective. Thanks for the 'nudge.' It feels great!
Linda

JOAN’S REPLY

Hi Linda...
I know you are a busy woman so no shame, okay? And you've replied now, when I needed it. I was actually thinking about packing it in because there are now so many others who talk about families. Thank you so very much for opening your heart to me; I loved reading your letter.

Go to the web site and choose any ebook with my compliments for your reward.

Love, Joan

Hi, Joan,

Your words on "Chores" tells the story of responsibility and warmed my heart. Whenever I received a negative response to doing a chore, I'd respond with"Who else can do it?" They could never answer it.

The following will help when you think you’re talking to the wall!

WHEN YOU THOUGHT I WASN'T LOOKING
by Mary Rita Schilke Korzan ©1980

A message every adult should read, because children are watching you and doing as you do, not as you say.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you hang my first painting on
the refrigerator, and I immediately wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you feed a stray cat, and I learned that it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make my favorite cake for
me and I learned that the little things can be the special things in life.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I heard you say a prayer, and I knew
there is a God I could always talk to and I learned to trust in God.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make a meal and take it to
a friend who was sick, and I learned that we all have to help take care of each other.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you give of your time and money to help people who had nothing and I learned that those who have something should give to those who don't.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you take care of our house and
everyone in it and I learned we have to take care of what we are given.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw how you handled your responsibilities, even when you didn't feel good and I learned that I would have to be responsible when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw tears come from your eyes and
I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it's all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw that you cared and I wanted to
be everything that I could be.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I learned most of life's lessons
that I need to know to be a good and productive person when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I looked at you and wanted to say,
"Thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn't looking."

Every time you send one there is one or two things that I forward to family members and friends. This time, I am jumping into the scrambled pancakes! This sounds terrific! My boys are 15 and 18 but are ready for fun stuff like this anytime. :) Thank you.
